For this year's pantomime, I was a senior technician, helping with various aspects like lighting and sound effects, my main role while running the show was as the sound technician. I worked closely with the cast to position, EQ, route and mix the mics, backing tracks, and sound effects through the desk. On the first day of running the show, we encountered a technical problem. The Left side output for the mixing console broke, leaving only the right side of the hall with audio. I suggested that we could use the speakers from the music department and route these a different way through the board. The team and I went in early to set this up and the second show ran smoothly.

This was my first paid experience. Unfortunately, the dance school's contracted technician could not do the event and they needed someone to stand in, and I was recommended to them. For this show, I was tasked with learning new equipment like the FLX S24 to create a cue stack at the last moment. However, I was also tasked with running the sound - a handful of mics and the backing tracks. This show was a big push out of my boundary and I am grateful for what I learned.
This was my week's work experience in the local theatre in Richmond. Here I enjoyed working on the youth theatre show, Oh Be My mus-ical. For this show, I helped to rig fixtures and I operated the lights. I was in Comms with the stage manager who called the show and my mentor whom I was shadowing. The experience of working in a professional theatre was very exciting and it confirmed for me my career path.
This was a special one-night dance performance, which required two lighting operators and one sound engineer. This was a particularly enjoyable show to work on as this was the last performance for the Yr13s before they left.
I was contacted by the technician at my former school to help rig the sports hall ready for the annual gym and dance show. I remained in contact with the technician after leaving the school to be involved with performances and increase my knowledge.
In September, I moved to Richmond School and Sixth Form College and when I heard that the school were performing a pantomime, I very quickly wanted to get involved. I spoke with the head of the drama department to ask if I could get a role in the crew, initially, he asked me to attend the rehearsals after school. After a few rehearsal sessions, the drama teacher was surprised at my knowledge and experience and I was given the role of senior technician for the pantomime performance.
This was my last official Gym and Dance show as a student at QE and we strived to make it a good one. For this year's performance of Gym and Dance, I helped to rig all the fixtures and set up the PA system, co-designed lighting and was the stage manager for the whole show. In the picture, you can see me at my station with a mirrored screen of all the sound cues and the visualiser on my laptop running chamsys. With these tools, I was able to accurately call the show to the timing of songs.
This was the last whole school performance that I was involved in before leaving QE. I was the assistant stage manager for this performance. I managed all of the props and sets for the shows making sure everything was in place and ready to go for every performance.
Due to my prior involvement and role as deputy stage manager in the Little Shop of Horrors, at the gym and dance performance this year, I again had the opportunity to work as a deputy stage manager and co-designer for lighting. This was my first opportunity to mark up a running sheet.
This was my first show where I was deputy stage manager. This meant that I got to call the show for the first time. I had always looked forward to this job and I absolutely loved the experience I got.
This was a strange one for me. I had never heard of the Pillow Man until this show. For this one, I worked closely with my other crew members to design the main pillow man puppet (which turned out creepy).
This was the first gym and dance show I was involved in. We had an assembly about the show and they asked for students who might be willing to help out backstage. For the performance, I acted as a stagehand moving the gym mats, foam mattresses, vaults and more on and off the stage with the rest of the crew
This was one of the first shows I was involved in tech wise. I can still remember the songs to this day and absolutely loved working on the show. This show marked the beginning of my love for backstage.
